The Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. is requesting your donation for our first Bowl-A-Thon. If you choose to donate, your business name will be printed on our souvenir Bowl-A-Thon T-shirts and our Houston Jaycee website. We are asking for businesses to sponsor lanes at $200 for two sessions or $100 for one session. A package deal for $275 includes a full lane sponsorship and a 4 person bowling team. Major Event Sponsors ($1000) will have a 15 foot banner hung during the event.

The locomotive rode into Downtown Houston on August 25, 2005; the 169th Anniversary of the day the Allen brothers purchased Houston. This move results in the creation of a dynamic icon making downtown Houston more family friendly and preserves a landmark of Houston, Texas, and American history. SP 982 was brought to Houston in 1957 as a constant reminder of our heritage and a symbol of our city seal. The locomotive was credited with helping settle the great state of Texas. Houston was once known as “the city where 17 railroads meet the sea.” After spending 48 years in Hermann Park, SP 982 currently rests next to Union Station (founded 1853) and Minute Maid Park.

One can imagine the expenses of restoring and moving a 188-ton engine: over $500,000. Plus, funds are needed for general upkeep and more restoration work. In the future, permanent night lights and a remote switch to ring her bell need to be installed.

The Houston Junior Chamber owns SP 982 and believes she really belongs to the people of the City of Houston. The Junior Chamber has been committed since 1957 to keep SP 982 so all can enjoy her as an educational and historic monument.

The Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization. Post Office Box 271566, Houston, Texas 77277-1566
